Welcome to Megahit Media.

Megahit Media allows users to find movies, television series, and video games simply through detailed searches by genre, Megameter* score, and/or age rating.

MEGAMETER RATINGS

Every movie, TV show, and video game is rated out of 6 on the Megameter. Every piece of media is rated through the same process.

  • Every piece of media is first scaled out of 4 in three main categories:
    – MOVIES/TV: Entertainment (enjoyment factor) – Storytelling (quality of the plot) – Visuals (visual effects/cinematography)
    – VIDEO GAMES: Gameplay (general design/controls) – Entertainment (enjoyment factor) – Graphics (visual effects/animations)
  • After being rated in all three categories, the three scores are then added up and then divided by 2, giving a final score out of 6.
  • Movies that were groundbreaking in one of the three categories in some way can receive a bonus 0.5 added to the score for that category, giving a score of 4.5/4. This is called the MegaFactor.

EXAMPLE: Toy Story (1995)
– Entertainment: 3.2/4
– Storytelling: 3.5/4
– Visuals: 4.5/4 (MegaFactor: Groundbreaking for 3D animation)
= 11.2/12
= 5.6/6 Final Score

AGE RATINGS

As well as being scored on their quality, media is also scored on its recommended audience group. Each movie has an age rating, giving parents an idea of what movies their kids can watch and why.

RATINGS:

There are five general ratings for movies:
A – Suitable for all ages, primarily made for younger audiences. (All ages)
B – Suitable for all ages, may include aspects too mature for very young children (5+)
C – Suitable for older children / pre-teens, may include some mature content (10+)
D – Suitable for young adult / teenagers, includes mature content (13+)
F – Suitable for older/adult audiences, includes lots of mature content (16+)

Every movie gets rated with one of these letter grades. Tied to the letter grade may be another letter, which sepcifies the main aspect that got the media rated how it was.

V – Violence
S – Sexual Content
T – Topics/Themes
L – Language

FULL AGE RATINGS:

A – Suitable for all ages, primarily made for younger audiences.
B – Suitable for all ages, may include aspects too mature for very young children
CV – Suitable for older children / pre-teens, includes some violent content, more mature imagery
CS – Suitable for older children / pre-teens, includes some/very little sexual content
CT – Suitable for older children / pre-teens, includes some heavy/adult topics and themes
CL – Suitable for older children / pre-teens, includes some adult language
DV – Suitable for young adult / teenagers, includes some graphic violence, mature imagery
DS – Suitable for young adult / teenagers, includes sexual content
DT – Suitable for young adult / teenagers, includes very heavy adult topics and themes
DL – Suitable for young adult / teenagers, includes constant adult language
F – Suitable for older/adult audiences, includes lots of mature content (16+)

All media will have small, more specific descriptions for their specific age rating.
